Continental Drift.

WALT : Today I am sharing my creation about continental drift, Pangaea, Alfred Wegener & Convection currents.

In 1912, a polar researcher named Alfred Lothar Wegener brang up a theory that all the continents were once all together. It existed 300 millions ago and formed what was to be said the Super continent named Pangaea. This began when he was searching through some books and he saw that the same species, fossils and plants were found in different parts of the world. They were located around Europe, Asia, Greenland and Antarctica. Then he thought to himself, How did it end up there? So he Cut all the continents on paper and tried to put them all together just like a jig saw puzzle. He matched all the continents and found out that they all joined and that's how the theory began.

Later on, a group of people named The Fixists were against it. They made there own theory that there were land bridges around Earth, which connected all continents together, and they thought that explains why fossils, plants and species were everywhere. But Alfred said that if there were land bridges, where are they and how did they appear?. Also he said If they sunk then they could have came back up to the surface of the water and yet nothing has appeared. Later on Alfred died with no evidence for his theory but Harry Hess, A Navy Officer searched deeper into his theory. He looked under water using sonar technology, on the oceanic crust or the other name sea bed and noticed, that all the crusts under water join up and connect, and that's how they won the argument.

What causes these you say? Well its caused by all the work going on inside the earth. The core is what heats up the earth and is what caused the continents to move apart. So maybe this is what caused all the continents to move from the beginning when the world was all one. The core heats up the outer core causing it to heat the mantle, and moves all the hot magma and the hot rocks rise up to the surface of the mantle. The cool rocks sink back into the mantle and that's what a Convection current is. So what made the continents move you think? So it all happens Under the Ocean and the name of the Crust is the oceanic crust. There are 2 crusts The Continental Crust which is rock and the Oceanic Crust. The Continental Crust is so thick It rises above the surface of the water and creates land. The oceanic crust is called that because its under the ocean. So the Oceanic cools all the hot magma and creates new land and pushes the land away which means this is why Pangaea broke apart and created the countries and land. Its caused by the seduction in the ocean floor.
